“Shows like David Letterman’s Late Show and Jay Leno’s Tonight Show have already teed up to be available in HDTV versions, but there still is in mid-2006 a general scarcity of HD content.

Older movies are routinely popping up on channels like INHD and INHD2 - movies that look fantastic in HD, especially if they are 20 or 30 years old. You’re used to seeing these old greats on a regular TV, or at best on a DVD, and they come to life again on the big(ger) HDTV screen in 1080.

But that’s not all of the story on HD content… the advertisers have to kick in to be competitive. The 2006 SuperBowl was full of slick, movie-like HD-format ads, and they show that the bar is higher now. Now you can expect people like luxury car makers to choose HDTV for their ads (Apple’s Mercedes Benz/Final Cut page).
