The Dinner is a psychological thriller in which Richard Gere portrays Stana Lohman, a famous politician who calls his brother Paula (Steve Coogan) and his wife Claire (Laura Linney) for dinner at a stylish restaurant. The occasion for dinner is horrific crimes committed by their children, teenagers Michel and Rick. Although they were photographed by a security camera, Michels and Rick's crime was not yet known to the public and they were not identified as perpetrators. It is up to parents to make the best possible decision on how to best cope with the malice committed by young men.

In addition to the aforementioned actors, Chloë Sevigny (The Last Days of Disco), Rebecca Hall (Christine), Charlie Plummer (King Jack), and Adepero Oduye (Pariah) appear in the film. It is based on a successful bestseller of Dutch author Hermano Cocha, which has already produced two films.

The Dinner was directed by Oren Moverman, director of Time Out of Mind drama, featuring Gere, Crime Rampart Rampart and The 2009 romantic war drama The Messenger from 2009. He is a co-author of numerous films including a biographical drama I'm Not There about Bob Dylan, a romantic crime drama Married Life and a biography of Love & Mercy on Brian Wilson's life.
