As a fan of animated films, I regularly attend the Oscars in this category. In addition to the films Despicable Me 2 and The Croods, the nominations received the Japanese production of Kaze Tachin by the masterful Hayao Miyazaki, then the French Ernest et Célestine and this latest product of the Disney Empire, which is considered the main candidate for the golden statue.

The plot of the film is partly based on the famous fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen “Snow Queen”. It follows the story of two sisters, Elsie and Anna, who grow up together in a castle, in a kingdom whose king is their father. Elsa has the ability to create snow and ice from anything she uses only for play, but on one occasion she hurts Ana and her parents lock her in a room. After a few years, during the act of coronation, Elsa brings eternal winter to her kingdom and flees to the mountains. Ana, with the help of a nice ice seller Kristof and a snowman named Olaf, does her best to bring her back and looks for a way to undo the magic.

This Disney movie is not the best thing that came out of their workshop, but it is in any case a fun, engaging and emotional film. Although the story of Disney princesses has been seen many times so far, the authors, with the help of beautiful animation, innovative and very interesting characters and the best elements of classic fairy tales, make the film look like something completely new and innovative. The project is adorned with great music, while the song “Let It Go” was nominated for an Oscar in the category of music for a film. The authors of the film, Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, known for the Pocahontas, Little Mermaid and Breaker Ralph projects, have enough experience and material behind them, they have worked on a lot of films and they have taken something best from each of them.

In relation to most fairy tales, this time the emphasis is not on the love between the princess and a guy, but on the sisterly love between Elsa and Ana. From the very beginning, their strong sisterly bond is shown, which over time becomes stronger and reaches its peak at the very end, when that bond comes to the most difficult exam that she successfully passes. There are two male characters and two cute creatures in the film, but it can be freely said that Elsa and Ana are the main characters, because their further destiny depends on themselves. I definitely take this modern project in the understanding of fairy tales as a big plus.

This is a fun and warm project worthy of the house in which it was created. With great music, a great story, a nostalgic effect and quite satisfying comic moments, every fan of animated films should watch it.
