Cole’s sister suspects that Sadie is ignoring him, but his parents convince him to surprise her in London after he locates her through a tracker on his inhaler, which he left in her bag.

As the story progresses, Cole is abducted by arms dealers in Pakistan who believe him to be a legendary CIA operative known asthe Taxman.” Sadie rescues him before he can be tortured, and they embark on a chase through the Khyber Pass. They escape from Cole’s captors, who are working for Leveque, a disgraced French Intelligence agent selling a stolen bio-weapon called “Aztec” for which he needs the passcode.

In a nearby town, Cole and Sadie meet Marco, her old contact and former lover. He warns Cole that Sadie cares more about the success of a mission than her boyfriend’s life. Marco agrees to take Cole home, but their plan is interrupted by bounty hunters after Leveque puts a price on Cole’s head.

Marco is killed, but the bounty hunters all kill each other. Sadie is determined to recover Aztec using Cole as bait, and she delivers him to Leveque. Cole parachutes to safety with the Aztec case, and a wounded Sadie, landing on Socotra Island. Cole uses his agricultural knowledge to treat her wounds, reconnecting with her in the process.

The story culminates in a thrilling gunfight at a revolving restaurant, with Cole and Sadie fighting against Leveque and his men. Cole ultimately kills Wagner by throwing him into the mechanism, and Sadie sends Leveque crashing through a window to his death. They rekindle their relationship, and Sadie meets Cole’s family.
