The MTV Movie & TV Awards have always been a little awkward due to their placement in the year, often awarding films that are too new or too old for other award ceremonies.
However, the show’s unique aspect is that it allows normal people to vote, giving it more flexibility. This year, the show faced a new challenge due to the ongoing writers’ strike.
The live show was pivoted to a clip show of previous ceremonies and pre-recorded bits with host Drew Barrymore, who dropped out last week in solidarity with the striking writers.
Winners of the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards Revealed
Tom Cruise even sent in a video from the cockpit of a plane he was flying. Despite this, the awards show still announced the winners, including “Avatar: The Way of Water” for Best Movie, Drew Barrymore for Best Host, and “Stranger Things” for Best Show.
